Description
Should I buy a toner cartridge or drum unit? Brother toner cartridges and drum units are separate consumables and both are needed to operate your printer. Toner cartridges are replaced much more often than the drum unit since they contain the toner powder that is used to create a print. The drum unit does all of the heavy lifting, transferring that toner powder onto the page by applying heat and pressure. Once a cartridge has reached the projected page yield, it should be replaced. Drum units are designed to last longer and generally require replacement after the use of 3 or 4 toner cartridges. The printer will notify you when it is time for a new drum with a replacement message on your display.
